New York Yankees starter Carlos Rodon has been tremendous at Yankee Stadium and is a heavy MLB odds favorite to sweep the Chicago White Sox and righty Chris Flexen.
The Yankees lumber can score runs in droves, but our White Sox vs. Yankees predictions MLB picks expect a low-scoring affair.
White Sox vs Yankees prediction
My best bet
Under 8 (-110 at DraftKings)
My analysis
New York Yankees starter Carlos Rodon is enjoying a terrific season thus far, especially when pitching at Yankee Stadium.
He's gone six frames or more in each of his three home starts. He’s issued four free passes, 17 punchouts, and only four earned runs across 19 1/3 on the Yankee Stadium bump and has a good matchup ahead of him today.
The Chicago White Sox have scored only a dozen runs across their last five; they’ve walked the least in baseball against lefties with a high strikeout rate (24.5%), and their .251 BABIP vs. lefties doesn’t lend itself to scoring many runs today.
Chicago will counter with righty Chris Flexen. He’s been better than his numbers suggest, especially on the road. Flexen’s 3.71 away xFIP seems to suggest that his four-seamer/cutter combo surrendering five earned runs with 16 punchouts and five earned runs across 18 2/3 away stanzas is legit.
Flexen will need to be legit as the Bronx Bombers can score runs in droves; they’ve plated 25 runs across their previous five games with the second-most runs (174) and highest wRC+ (+127) in baseball against righties.
While the matchup doesn’t look great on paper, we should be in for a real pitching treat today. Each starter's splits suggest both hurlers are in line for good days; Rodon has been dynamite at home and Flexen's allowed only five earned runs across his three away starts against some good lumber, including one hit across four frames against the Phillies.
Eight of their previous 10, including both games in this series, have ended Under the number. Expect more of the same on Sunday.
White Sox vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
I like a low-scoring affair today, but I also like the Yankees to cover the run line. They’ve covered in eight of their last dozen ballgames and Aaron Judge should help them do so again today.
The Yankees outfielder enters his matchup riding a six-game hitting streak overall and has hit safely in his past seven games at Yankee Stadium. The sample size is small but the red-hot Yankees slugger is 2-3 with a home run against Flexen.
