Hornets vs Knicks Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Jalen Brunson Takes Down Charlotte

The Knicks have made short work of the Hornets twice already this season and Charlotte struggles to contain anyone with even a remote skill at getting baskets. While the spread is dodgy, our betting picks focus on Jalen Brunson's offensive prowess.

The New York Knicks have already beaten up the Charlotte Hornets twice this season.

Tonight, they’ll face them a third time and will enter as steep 11.5-point favorites in the NBA odds. Charlotte will likely be without LaMelo Ball, who was last seen being carried off the court with an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to Orlando.

It’s also an NBA Tournament game, with both teams still alive with a chance to advance in the East’s Group B.

Hornets vs Knicks predictions

The New York Knicks don’t waste any time swatting the Charlotte Hornets, at least not in the first two matchups, both NYC blowout wins.

In their first meeting on November 12, the Knicks poured in 64 first-half points to lead by 10, eventually running away with a 129-107 win. It was much of the same on November 18, with New York putting up a 61-50 lead at the break to ultimately win 122-108.

In both cases, the Knicks lit the Hornets on fire from beyond the 3-point line. In the first game, they went 16-for-37, a crisp 43.2% clip, and followed that up by going 15-for-36 (41.7%).

That’s why we’re targeting Jalen Brunson’s 3-point shooting prowess tonight.

Brunson has been rippling mesh from distance of late, including last game when he went 5-for-10, part of a 35-point effort in a 116-113 loss to the Suns. That’s the seventh time in nine games Brunson has hit three or more triples, exactly the number he would need to top his 2.5 make total Tuesday.

Both of those Hornets games are in this run. Most recently, he went 4-for-8. Brunson has been on fire from beyond the arc all November, really, shooting a blistering 47.5%. He’s hitting 47.2% on the year on just under seven 3-point attempts per game.

Charlotte is a defensive sieve, giving up 122.2 points per game while allowing teams to shoot 38.6% from the land beyond. Both of those numbers rank fourth-worst in the Association.

With LaMelo Ball unlikely to go, this could be a blowout, so I’ll steer clear of Brunson’s point total, and trust he keeps up his hot shooting.

My best bet: Jalen Brunson Over 2.5 made threes (-150 at DraftKings)

Hornets vs Knicks same-game parlay

Jalen Brunson Over 2.5 made threes

Jalen Brunson Over 5.5 assists

Hornets team total Under 107.5

Mitchell Robinson Over 10.5 rebounds

Let’s stay with Brunson for another piece of a four-leg same-game parlay. The diminutive guard has also been keeping his teammates well-fed of late, and that’s why I’m targeting him to cross 5.5 assists. In his last 10 games, Brunson has gone Over this total seven times, including one game against the Hornets where he piled up seven dimes.

Last game, he matched a season-best with eight against the Suns, matching an effort this month against the Hawks. Charlotte is prone to getting picked apart on the defensive end, allowing 27.7 assists per game, the fifth-worst mark in basketball.

All of Brunson’s success in the previous two matchups is a big reason the Hornets have been held under 110 points in both losses, averaging just 107.5 points.

With Ball doubtful, there goes the Hornets’ leading scorer, who had averaged 24.7 points per game. a mark that rose to 32.5 in those two losses vs. New York. That compromises a unit averaging 114.1 points per game, which currently ranks 14th.

I see a lot of missed shots, so we’re throwing in Mitchell Robinson’s rebound total. New York’s man in the middle has had at least 11 boards in four of the last six games, and he’s averaging 11.3 rebounds on the year.

He should pick up a lot of leftover change on the defensive rim Tuesday.

Hornets vs Knicks spread and Over/Under analysis

Not surprisingly, Charlotte was as low as a 7-point underdog before Ball’s injury expanded that line to as many as 12.5 points.

There’s some wiggle room beneath that number, but the line will remain in double digits.

These teams have both struggled against the spread. Charlotte is 6-9-0 ATS, while New York checks in at 8-6-2.

As for the total, Ball’s injury has the points hovering anywhere from 222 to 223.5 points. That’s the only reason for the low line, as these teams have hit the 230-point plateau in both previous matchups.

Charlotte bleeds points, so no surprise the Over has hit in 10 of 15 games this season. The Knicks, however, have only gone Over in seven of 16 contests.
