Jets vs Sharks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

It's been tough sledding for San Jose's offense of late, and things won't get easier against Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets tonight.

The Winnipeg Jets hit the road to take on the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday evening at the SAP Center.

San Jose has scored two or fewer goals in four of its past five meetings with Winnipeg, and my Jets vs. Sharks predictions believe those offensive woes will continue Tuesday night. Read on for my NHL picks for Tuesday, December 17.

Jets vs Sharks prediction

My Jets pick
Sharks team total Under 2.5 (-125 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
We're going to back the heavy favorites in this contest by fading the San Jose Sharks’ offense. Despite some impressive young forwards on this team, it still ranks in the bottom half of the league in goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, power-play percentage, and shooting percentage.

With that young talent comes inexperience, which is why the Sharks struggle to generate high-danger scoring chances. They enter this matchup ranked 28th in xGF/60.

That is a recipe for disaster against Connor Hellebuyck, who's arguably the best goaltender in the world and is slated to take the crease for the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Building on last year’s Vezina campaign, Hellebuyck is 19-5-1 this season with a commanding .926 SV% and 2.11 GAA.

He’s allowed two or fewer goals in four of his past five starts, posting a 4-0-1 record with a .924 SV% and 1.95 GAA over that stretch. This success is likely to continue against San Jose, a team Hellebuyck has allowed two or fewer goals against in five of their past seven meetings.

On the other hand, the Sharks have scored two or fewer goals in four of their past six games.

Jets vs Sharks odds analysis

Winnipeg opened as a -206 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing. I believe this market could start to move in Winnipeg's direction.

The total opened at 6 with juice toward the Under, and considering that Connor Hellebuyck is between the pipes, it's more likely this total moves to 5.5 than 6.5.
