I’m back after a little R-and-R and ready to pick apart Monday’s tasty six-game slate. With the trade deadline looming and lines moving, there are a lot of places to look today for a best bet.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Monday, March 3.
NHL prop picks and best bets for March 3
Samoskevich o0.5 points (+155 at bet365)
Newhook + Laine o0.5 points each (+320 at bet365)
Foegele + Moore + Danault o0.5 points each (+600 at bet365)
Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Mackie Samoskevich Over 0.5 points (+155 at bet365)
The Florida Panthers are juggling their top power play and that's giving Mackie Samoskevich another look with the top unit as Carter Verhaeghe moves to PP2. Samoskevich is paying a big price for a point today (+155) and he correlates with Sam Bennett with the duo paying +300 for a point each.
It’s not the best matchup as Andrei Vasilevskiy has been tough to beat since the restart, but Florida is at home and has a boost with Seth Jones likely making his Florida debut tonight.
The second-line winger had a goal in his last game and has seen his minutes increase of late. The move to PP1 is only going to get him more ice time. This point price should not be bigger than +120 but as with most NHL prop markets, books are slow to move lines to what his new role should imply.
Alex Newhook + Patrick Laine Over 0.5 points each (+320 at bet365)
Although Alex Newhook isn’t on the top power play, the pair of him and Patrick Laine have been finding the scoresheet together of late, and stacking the second-liners has been a great plus-money play. It's tough to beat today's +320 price tag, especially in a potentially high-scoring game.
Newhook has a point in three straight games including a goal in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Buffalo. He might not play 18+ minutes, but today’s matchup vs. the Sabres should yield some goals with its 6.5-point total.
The Caufield/Suzuki/Slafkovsky line has been red-hot with 17 combined points over the last four games, but this second line, including Owen Beck, has been playing sneakily well. There are a lot of second-line stacks at these prices and they are my preferred target as top-line prices have been neutered.
Warren Foegele + Trevor Moore + Philip Danault Over 0.5 points each (+600 at bet365)
The Los Angeles Kings have mixed up their top two lines but it has been the third line of Philip Danault, Trevor Moore, and Warren Foegele who have stayed together and been producing. The Kings have an easy matchup tonight vs. the selling Blackhawks who will have a new goalie in net tonight in Spencer Knight while also missing their No. 1 D-man in Seth Jones who was shipped to Florida.
This trio of forwards also plays on the second power-play unit that gets plenty of time as the first unit is not getting 75% of the extra-attacker time. Foegele has eight points over his last eight games while this triple stack has hit three times over that stretch.
The Blackhawks are in a bad spot to keep pucks out of the net and this line should get around 16-18 minutes and the best matchups with Chicago likely using its best defenders on the top lines with the last change.
