Lions 17, Eskimos 3: Quarterback Travis Lulay threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns and added 82 rushing yards to lead visiting BC over a disjointed Edmonton offence.
Lulay finished 12-for-18 passing, connecting with running back Andrew Harris and wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux for touchdowns in the second half, when the Lions (2-1) took control of the game. Harris had 100 combined yards after recording 152 in Week 2.
Quarterback Mike Reilly was held to 97 yards on 13-for-23 passing for the Eskimos (1-2), who again struggled to generate offence at home after losing 39-18 to Saskatchewan in Week 1. Running back Hugh Charles recorded 36 yards on 10 carries following a 119-yard performance in Guelph, Ont., last week.
Heavy rain limited both teams to a combined four points in the first half. Lulay threw a 12-yard pass to Arceneaux for the game’s first touchdown 4:35 into the third quarter and connected with Harris for a 16-yard touchdown 6:16 later to open a 12-point advantage for the Lions heading into the fourth quarter.
The Eskimos conceded a safety with 4:44 remaining to extend BC’s lead to 14. Lions cornerback Cord Parks intercepted Reilly with 2:13 remaining and defensive end Julius Williams sacked Reilly in the final seconds to halt any hope of an Edmonton comeback.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Eskimos also played in heavy rain against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week in a 30-20 victory. … Reilly has 492 total passing yards in his first three weeks as Edmonton starter. … Eskimos LB Damaso Munoz, who entered the game with eight tackles, led all players with 10.
