Alouettes 47, Eskimos 24: Quarterback Josh Neiswander threw four touchdown passes as visiting Montreal manhandled Edmonton.
Neiswander completed 15-of-25 passes for 251 yards, connecting twice each with slotbacks Arland Bruce and S.J. Green for touchdowns for the Alouettes (6-8), who moved six points clear of the Eskimos for the final playoff spot. Defensive back Jerald Brown had two interceptions, while linebackers Mike Edem and Chip Cox and cornerback Geoff Tisdale also caught picks.
Quarterback Mike Reilly only lasted one half after leaving last week’s contest with a head injury, throwing 13-for-21 for 180 passing yards with two interceptions before being replaced by Jonathan Crompton, who was 13-for-26 for 204 yards with three touchdowns and three picks for Edmonton (3-11). Wide receiver Shamawd Chambers caught two touchdown passes from Crompton.
Neiswander found Green for scores of 6 yards and 22 yards in the first quarter and threw a 6-yard toss to Bruce with 1:22 remaining in the first half to give Montreal a 31-3 lead at halftime. A 21-yard touchdown pass to Bruce in the opening minute of the fourth quarter sealed the game for the Alouettes.
Eskimos kicker Hugh O’Neill had the only points for Edmonton with a 24-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter until Crompton connected with Chambers for 31 yards with 8:58 left. Crompton found Chambers again for 6 yards 4:28 later and connected with slotback Fred Stamps 1:30 after that, but Montreal running back Tyrell Sutton ran for a 7-yard score to stop the comeback with 1:24 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Edmonton SB Adarius Bowman led all receivers with seven catches for 111 yards. … Eskimos RB Hugh Charles had 14 yards on five carries as Edmonton, which fell to 1-7 at home, was limited to 45 total rushing yards. … Montreal backup QB Troy Smith rushed for a 1-yard touchdown.
