Alouettes 32, Eskimos 27: Brandon Whitaker recorded 162 rushing yards and one touchdown on 24 carries to help host Montreal snap a three-game losing streak.
Anthony Calvillo completed 19-of-29 passes for 202 yards for the Alouettes (2-3), who won their seventh straight meeting with Edmonton. Kyries Hebert finished with two sacks and fellow linebacker Shea Emry made two interceptions to lead Montreal’s defence.
Mike Reilly recovered from a shaky start to finish 16-of-28 for 262 yards and two touchdowns as the Eskimos (1-4) mounted a failed comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. Slotback Cary Koch, filling in for injured kick returner Joe Burnett, returned a punt 81 yards for a score.
Whitaker ran for a 13-yard touchdown with 46 seconds left in the first half to give the Alouettes a 14-point lead. His fumble in the fourth quarter led to a receiving touchdown by Koch, but Whitaker atoned for that mistake with running gains of 18 and 21 yards to set up a pair field goals that sealed the win.
Reilly was benched in favor of backup Jonathan Crompton for much of the second quarter but connected with Calvin McCarty and Koch for touchdowns 71 seconds apart in the fourth to give Edmonton a one-point edge. Trailing by five points with one minute remaining, Reilly completed 4-of-4 passes for 70 yards to set up a final play on Montreal’s 1-yard line, but the Eskimos were unable to cash in.
