Stampeders 37, Blue Bombers 24: Bo Levi Mitchell completed 29-of-33 passes to outduel Justin Goltz in a battle of first-time CFL starting quarterbacks as visiting Calgary cruised past struggling Winnipeg.
Mitchell threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns as the Stampeders (4-1) rallied from a first-half deficit to outscore Winnipeg 29-10 over the final 2 1/2 quarters. Greg Carr and Anthony Parker hauled in first-half TD passes while Marquay McDaniel added a 10-yard scoring reception early in the fourth quarter that effectively decided the outcome.
Goltz was solid in defeat, going 19-for-35 for 194 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Jade Etienne caught both TD passes while Chad Simpson added a last-minute scoring run for the Blue Bombers (1-4), who fell to 0-3 at the new Investors Group Field.
Mitchell was sensational from the start, completing his first seven passes - the last to Carr for a 27-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. The Blue Bombers responded on the following drive, as a 40-yard Rory Kohlert reception set up Goltz's 5-yard scoring strike to Etienne.
Goltz and Etienne hooked up on a seven-yard TD early in the second quarter to put Winnipeg ahead, but Rene Parades connected on field goals of 37, 19 and 26 yards to send Calgary into the break with a 17-14 edge. The Stampeders carried that momentum into the second half, opening with a nine-play, 82-yard drive that culminated in Mitchell's 14-yard TD pass to Parker.
