Blue Bombers 34, Alouettes 27: Quarterback Max Hall threw two touchdown passes and running back Will Ford had two touchdowns as part of 202 total combined yards to lift visiting Winnipeg to a rare victory.
Hall connected with wide receiver Clarence Denmark for a touchdown and finished 16-for-27 passing with 223 yards for the Blue Bombers (3-12), who ended a four-game losing skid. Ford caught one touchdown and ran for another, while defensive backs Desia Dunn and Alex Suber, cornerback Demond Washington and safety Cauchy Muamba made interceptions.
Quarterback Josh Neiswander completed 19-of-38 passes for 199 yards and three interceptions for Montreal (6-9), which would have clinched the final playoff spot with a victory. Backup quarterback Troy Smith took over briefly in the second quarter, completing 3-of-6 passes with a 12-yard touchdown to slotback S.J. Green, but threw an interception on the following possession.
Hall found Denmark for completions of 34 and 25 yards, which led to a 1-yard run by Winnipeg backup quarterback Jason Boltus that put the Blue Bombers up by four with 5:46 left in the third quarter. Ford broke through the Alouettes defence on a 69-yard run 4:25 into the fourth quarter and followed that with a 1-yard touchdown run that made it 31-26.
A 40-yard catch by wide receiver Duron Carter set up a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Tyrell Sutton to give Montreal the lead with 2:09 remaining in the first half. Alouettes linebacker Shea Emry recovered a punt blocked by defensive back Ben Wells just 17 seconds later, setting up a 19-yard field goal by Sean Whyte that extended Montreal’s lead before Hall tied the game with a 40-yard pass to Denmark with nine seconds left in the half.
