Argonauts 36, Eskimos 33: Quarterback Ricky Ray battled a nagging knee injury and completed 30-of-35 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns against his former team to lead host Toronto to its fourth straight victory.
Ray found slotbacks Chad Owens and Jason Barnes and wide receiver John Chiles for touchdowns and backup quarterback Zach Collaros threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to fullback Zander Robinson as the Argonauts (5-2) extended their lead atop the East Division. Owens finished with 102 receiving yards, 15 rushing yards and 78 total return yards.
Quarterback Mike Reilly was 35-for-46 for a career-best 511 yards and three touchdowns for Edmonton (1-6), which is mired in a five-game losing skid and sits at the bottom of the West Division. Slotback Fred Stamps caught six passes for 172 yards and one touchdown to lead all Eskimos receivers.
Ray, who was 18-for-19 in the first half and did not throw an incomplete pass until the final minute of the half, connected with Chiles for 31 yards and Owens for six yards as Toronto scored 16 points in the third quarter. Edmonton did not record a point in the second half until kicker Grant Shaw missed a 41-yard field goal that went through the end zone for a rouge 4:26 into the fourth.
Reilly, who reached 500 passing yards for the first time in his career, threw a 22-yard touchdown to wide receiver Shamawd Chambers to pull the Eskimos within 10 points with 5:57 remaining in the game. Shaw, who converted 4-of-5 field goal attempts, added a 30-yard try with 2:10 left, but Ray found Chiles for 49 yards on the following possession and kicker Noel Prefontaine converted a 26-yard field goal to ice the contest.
