Roughriders 37, Tiger-Cats 0: Quarterback Darian Durant showed no ill effects from a foot injury suffered last week, completing 20-of-32 passes for 347 yards and four touchdowns as host Saskatchewan spoiled the return of Hamilton head coach Kent Austin.
Wide receiver Rob Bagg caught two touchdowns on 125 receiving yards for the Roughriders (4-0), who remained the only team in the league without a loss with their most dominant performance thus far. Slotback Weston Dressler caught five passes for 73 yards and one touchdown, while Saskatchewan’s defence recorded five sacks.
Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris finished with 158 yards on 16-for-27 passing, but Hamilton (1-3) managed just 16 total rushing yards against a stifling Roughriders defence. Austin, who won Grey Cups with Saskatchewan as a quarterback and head coach, could not keep his new team from looking generally overwhelmed for most of the game.
Durant found Bagg for 28 yards with 3:53 remaining in the second quarter and Bagg caught a 60-yard toss 2:07 into the fourth - his first two touchdown catches at home since 2010. Roughriders defensive back Craig Butler intercepted Burris early in the second quarter and sacked the Tiger-Cats pivot for a 12-yard loss in the third.
Hamilton’s defence contained Saskatchewan in the first quarter and held running back Kory Sheets to 36 yards on nine carries in the first half, but Durant and kicker Chris Milo chipped away to establish a 16-point lead by halftime. Saskatchewan guard Dan Clark, from Regina, caught an eight-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter to extend the advantage with his first career touchdown reception.
