Eskimos 30, Roughriders 26: Jamal Miles returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown with 1:06 remaining to lift visiting Edmonton over Saskatchewan, which gave several key players the day off.
Rennie Curran returned an interception for a touchdown and quarterback Jonathan Crompton completed a touchdown pass to John White for the Eskimos (4-14), who snapped a five-game losing skid to end the season. Grant Shaw was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.
Running back Chris Garrett ran for 152 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries and quarterback Drew Willy was 15-for-22 passing for 157 yards and one touchdown for the Roughriders (11-7), who went 3-6 over the second half of the season. Defensive back Craig Butler had an interception.
A pair of field goals by Saskatchewan kicker Chris Milo gave the Roughriders a three-point lead with 3:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Miles found a seam on a punt return and took off to regain the advantage for the Eskimos. Third-string quarterback Tino Sunseri was unable to complete a final scoring drive for Saskatchewan.
Curran intercepted Willy and returned it 56 yards for the first touchdown of the game 8:25 into the first quarter. Willy responded with a 5-yard touchdown toss to Eron Riley with 4:05 remaining in the first half, but Shaw gave Edmonton a 13-10 lead at halftime with a 40-yard field goal.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Roughriders host the BC Lions on Nov. 10 in the West Semifinal. The 101st Grey Cup Final will be played in Saskatchewan on Nov. 24. … Saskatchewan offensive starters Darian Durant, Kory Sheets and Chris Getzlaf did not play. … Sunseri finished 14-for-18 for 167 yards.
