Roughriders 14, Eskimos 9: Running back Kory Sheets rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown as host Saskatchewan overcame Edmonton to take sole possession of second place in the West Division.
Quarterback Darian Durant was 16-of-24 for 170 yards and a touchdown to slotback Weston Dressler but also threw two interceptions for the Roughriders (10-5), who are four points behind Calgary for the division lead. Defensive tackle Tearrius George had two sacks, while linebacker Diamond Ferri and safety Tyron Brackenridge had interceptions.
Quarterback Mike Reilly completed 17-of-34 passes and finished with 244 yards and two interceptions for the Eskimos (3-12), who fell to 0-7 against divisional opponents. Linebacker Rennie Curran and safety Donovan Alexander caught picks.
Both Saskatchewan touchdowns - a 20-yard toss to Dressler and a 5-yard run by Sheets - came in the second quarter, while the Roughriders held Edmonton without a touchdown. A 40-yard catch by Eskimos slotback Adarius Bowman gave Edmonton a chance at a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but Saskatchewan’s defence stopped the Eskimos at the 1-yard line.
Edmonton kicker Grant Shaw scored seven of the team’s nine points, with two more points coming on a Roughriders safety late in the third quarter. Eskimos defensive ends Marcus Howard and Odell Willis and defensive back Eric Samuels all recorded sacks on Durant, who struggled to establish a passing rhythm all game.
