Blue Bombers 19, Alouettes 11: Defensive tackle Bryant Turner
sacked Anthony Calvillo three times as Winnipeg evened the score by spoiling Montreal’s
home opener.
Quarterback Buck Pierce completed 19-of-31 passes
for 257 yards, Justin Goltz ran for two touchdowns and Chad Simpson
added 55 running yards for the Blue Bombers, who dropped their first
game at the new Investors Group Field to Montreal in Week 1. Defensive
end Zach Anderson added two sacks and Desia Dunn intercepted a Calvillo
pass early in the fourth quarter.
Calvillo was sacked seven times and managed only 121 yards on 16-for-28 passing. Slotback
S.J. Green caught a 17-yard touchdown pass with 2:10 remaining in the
fourth quarter to bring Montreal within 16-11.
The
Alouettes saw a glimmer of hope after Green’s touchdown when Winnipeg
kick returner Jovon Johnson fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, but Turner
recovered the ball. After Montreal got the ball back with 1:07
remaining following Justin Palardy's 27-yard field goal, Turner forced a fumble on his third sack of Calvillo, but was
injured on the play.

Winnipeg’s secondary, led by linebacker Henoc Muamba, who had six
tackles.
