Blue Bombers 23, Lions 6: Rookie kicker Lirim Hajrullahu was 5-for-5 on field goal attempts as visiting Winnipeg spoiled Geroy Simon night for BC.
Drew Willy was 18-of-26 passing for 250 yards, connecting with Clarence Denmark for the only touchdown for the Blue Bombers (4-1), who recorded six sacks. Ejiro Kuale and Maurice Leggett made interceptions for Winnipeg.
Kevin Glenn was 18-of-31 for 232 yards but tossed both interceptions for the Lions (2-3), bringing his season total to eight picks in five starts. Veteran kicker Paul McCallum scored the only points for BC, finishing 2-for-2 on field goals - both in the second quarter.
The Blue Bombers' defence stopped the Lions twice in the red zone in the second quarter, forcing short field goals by McCallum to enter halftime up 9-6. Glenn was pulled after his second interception early in the third quarter but re-entered after backup quarterback John Beck was unable to gain a first down on the following possession.
Willy found Denmark for a 37-yard touchdown 8:53 into the third quarter and Hajrullahu put the following kickoff through BC’s end zone for a single point. Hajrullahu made field goals of 51 yard and 49 yards in the quarter, which was more than enough for Winnipeg to cruise to victory.
