Roughriders 23, Blue Bombers 17: Terrell Maze's 28-yard interception return touchdown with 2:16 remaining gave visiting Saskatchewan a stunning come-from-behind win over Winnipeg.
Just over three minutes after Rory Kohlert's 12-yard touchdown reception momentarily put Winnipeg ahead, the Roughriders shocked the crowd at Investors Group Field as Maze settled under a high Drew Willy pass and ran it back for the game-winning score. It was one of two defensive scores on the night for Saskatchewan (4-2), which intercepted Willy on the ensuing drive and ran out most of the time remaining en route to its third straight win.
Willy finished with 303 passing yards but was responsible for four of his team's five turnovers as the Blue Bombers (5-2) saw their two-game winning streak halted. Clarence Denmark was his top target with six catches for 127 yards, including a 58-yarder that set up Kohlert's touchdown.
After the teams traded long field goals in an uneventful opening quarter, Willy capped a marathon 104-yard drive with a seven-yard TD scramble to put Winnipeg ahead with 5:27 left in the half. Chris Milo missed a 52-yard field goal that would have trimmed the deficit with just over three minutes remaining, and the Blue Bombers stifled Saskatchewan's final drive to carry a 10-3 advantage into the break.
With the Roughriders' offence still sputtering, the defence finally responded late in the third quarter as Tearrius George strip-sacked Willy and David Lee returned the ensuing fumble eight yards for the game-tying score. Another recovered fumble on the ensuing kickoff set up Milo's go-ahead 10-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth, and he added a 40-yarder with 7:19 left to set the stage for the wild finish.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Saskatchewan aided Winnipeg's lengthy first-half drive by picking up a pair of illegal contact penalties, including one that gave Winnipeg a first-and-goal opportunity from the 7-yard line that led to Willy's go-ahead score. ... The Roughriders finished with three first downs in the first half. ... Saskatchewan S Mark LeGree had a pair of interceptions, giving him three on the season.
