Roughriders 24, Eskimos 17: Rob Bagg made a decisive 40-yard touchdown catch as Saskatchewan upended visiting Edmonton to set up a rematch in next week's West Division playoffs.
Saskatchewan (9-9) limited Edmonton (12-6) to 87 rushing yards as the Roughriders moved into third place in the division and set up a return date in the Alberta capital next week. Kerry Joseph had a short touchdown run, Tino Sunseri was 2-of-2 for 59 yards and the scoring strike to Bagg, and Korey Williams added a scoring scamper in the second quarter.
Matt Nichols went 30-of-42 for 261 yards and two interceptions but scored a late rushing touchdown for the Eskimos, who had their three-game winning streak halted. Hugh O'Neill added three field goals in defeat.
After a listless opening quarter, Saskatchewan jumped ahead for good 2:12 into the second quarter as Joseph called his own number from 1 yard out. The teams traded field goals before Williams padded the Roughriders' lead with and 18-yard touchdown run
Sunseri's 40-yard strike to Bagg made it 23-4 early in the second half before Edmonton made a game of it, getting a pair of short O'Neill field goals and closing to within seven with 3:11 remaining as Nichols surged over the pile at the goal line after being stopped on his initial surge from 2 yards out. But Justin Black came up with a fumble on a punt after Saskatchewan went two-and-out, and Edmonton ran out of time on its final possession.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Saskatchewan victory means BC (9-9) heads to Montreal to face the Alouettes (9-9) in the East Division playoff opener next weekend. ... The teams combined for 25 penalties totaling 215 yards in a sloppy contest. ... Saskatchewan RB Anthony Allen led all rushers with 81 yards on 13 carries.
