Blue Bombers 18, Stampeders 13: Lirim Hajrullahu kicked four field goals as visiting Winnipeg took advantage of snowy conditions to defeat league-leading Calgary.
Robert Marve was 6-for-12 for 76 passing yards in the second half and completed a touchdown pass to Clarence Denmark for the Blue Bombers (7-11), who ended their season by snapping an eight-game losing skid amid heavy snow and poor field conditions. Johnny Sears Jr. recovered three fumbles as the Stampeders had trouble hanging on to the ball all game.
CFL-leading rusher Jon Cornish started and ran for 105 yards on 12 carries before suffering a head injury in the second quarter and leaving the game for Calgary (14-3). Bo Levi Mitchell completed 13-of-22 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown to Rob Cote, while Matt Walter rushed for 11 yards on 109 carries in place of Cornish.
Blue Bombers starter Drew Willy was pulled after going 4-for-10 for 22 passing yards in the first half, and Marve threw a 4-yard touchdown toss to Denmark after a blocked punt by Cory Watson gave Winnipeg great field position early in the third quarter. Hajrullahu had a field goal attempt blocked alter in the third quarter but he put the Blue Bombers in front by completing kicks from 10, 30 and 18 yards out in a span of 3:43 thanks to a pair of fumbles by the Stampeders.
Mitchell tossed a 10-yard touchdown to Cote 3:52 into the contest before the snow started falling heavily. Cornish fumbled the ball late in the first, leading to a 21-yard field goal by Hajrullahu. Rene Paredes restored Calgary’s seven-point advantage with a 28-yard field goal 2:11 into the second quarter, but missed a 25-yard try with 3:11 remaining in the first half.
